GTA 6 PC requirements: what we actually know (and what is a guess)
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced PC version, so there are no official system requirements. Every “minimum and recommended requirements” table you find out there is an estimate, however reasoned. Here we separate what is confirmed from what is only a guess, and give you the tools to read those estimates without being misled.
Why there are no official requirements
Simple: you do not publish the requirements of a version that has not been announced. Rockstar’s console-first strategy means PC has historically arrived months or years after the console launch, and only then do the official specs appear. If you care about when that version might land, we cover it in the dedicated guide on GTA 6 on PC: when it might arrive. Here we stay on the requirements.
The estimates going around do not even agree with each other
We are not giving you our own table of estimates, and the reason is clearer if you look at everyone else’s. We opened the pages ranking for “GTA 6 PC requirements” one by one and compared the numbers: they do not agree, and none of them states the method used to work them out.
| Site | Minimum GPU | Recommended GPU | Minimum RAM |
|---|---|---|---|
| PCGameBenchmark | GTX 1660 | RTX 3060 | 12 GB |
| WikiGTA6 | GTX 1660 | RTX 2080 SUPER | 12 GB |
| VGTimes | RTX 3060 | higher | 16 GB |
The detail that takes the whole genre apart: the RTX 3060 that VGTimes lists as the minimum is the same card PCGameBenchmark lists as recommended. Across the field the “estimated” minimum GPU swings from a GTX 1660 to an RTX 3060 to a GTX 1080 Ti depending on who is writing, and minimum RAM between 12 and 16 GB. These are not different predictions of the same thing: they are numbers somebody picked, presented with the same confident face.
Sitting on top of these tables are the “can my PC run it?” tools, which take invented numbers and turn them into a green or red verdict. The verdict looks like a test, but it is the same guess with an interface.
What Rockstar actually asks for, when it does publish requirements
Here is the part almost nobody tells you, and it is verifiable: the official PC requirements for Red Dead Redemption 2, published by Rockstar on the game’s Steam page.
| RDR2 official minimum | RDR2 official recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD FX-6300 | Core i7-4770K / Ryzen 5 1500X |
| Memory | 8 GB | 12 GB |
| Graphics card | GeForce GTX 770 2GB / Radeon R9 280 3GB | GTX 1060 6GB / RX 480 4GB |
| Storage | 150 GB | 150 GB |
Look at the graphics card row. The GTX 770 is a 2013 card, and Rockstar set it as the minimum for a game that reached consoles in 2018 and PC in 2019. Six years apart. Eight GB of RAM, not sixteen.
That is the reversal that makes almost every GTA 6 estimate suspect: they put the minimum at current-console level, which confuses “minimum requirement” with “hardware that runs the game well”. A minimum requirement, for Rockstar, has historically meant something else entirely: the most modest machine the game starts and stays playable on, not one that matches a PS5.
It is not a promise that GTA 6 will ask for little. It is the reason that, if an estimate tells you an RTX 3060 is the minimum, that estimate is not using Rockstar’s yardstick.
Ray tracing, performance and graphics options
The trailers show high-end lighting and reflections, and many take ray tracing support on PC for granted. It is plausible, given the consoles, but it is not confirmed. The same goes for options like DLSS and FSR, unlocked frame rate and ultra presets: they are expected, not promised. Until there is a PC version, “performance” and “graphics settings” remain an open chapter.
How much space you need
This is not known either, and the same rule applies as everywhere else on this page: Rockstar has not stated how big GTA 6 is on any platform, let alone on PC. The figures in circulation have traceable origins and none of them is official, as we reconstructed in the guide on GTA 6’s file size.
The one solid data point is the precedent: Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC asked for 150 GB, and that is a number Rockstar published rather than someone estimated. On the console side preloading starts on November 12, 2026, and the boxed copy holds a code rather than a disc, so everybody downloads.
What to do if you play on PC
The practical answer is one: do not buy hardware based on these estimates. It is too many months away, probably years, and the real requirements could change the decision. If you want to play at launch, the only certain route is a current-generation console: remember that GTA 6 is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One. In the meantime our guide to getting ready for launch covers space and preload, and we update this page as soon as Rockstar publishes the official requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Does GTA 6 have official PC requirements?
No. There is no announced PC version, so Rockstar has published no system requirements. Every table in circulation is an estimate.
What are the minimum requirements for GTA 6 on PC?
There are no official minimum requirements, and the estimates in circulation do not even agree with each other: the same RTX 3060 shows up as “minimum” on one site and “recommended” on another. The verifiable reference point is Red Dead Redemption 2’s official minimum, which was a GTX 770 2GB with 8 GB of RAM: Rockstar sets its minimums far lower than those tables imagine.
Will GTA 6 run on my PC?
It is impossible to say for sure until the official requirements are out. You can get a sense of the ballpark from the estimates above, but do not make purchasing decisions on unconfirmed numbers.
Do I need an SSD to play GTA 6 on PC?
Almost certainly yes. It is the most solid estimate: recent Rockstar open worlds already struggle on mechanical hard drives, and a world like Leonida makes an SSD effectively necessary.
When will the official requirements be released?
With the announcement of the PC version, which has not been given yet. Based on Rockstar’s porting history, that version could arrive between 2027 and 2028: the details are in GTA 6 on PC: when it might arrive.
