GTA 6 is PEGI 18: the detailed PEGI listing vanished, the ESRB one didn't
Nobody doubted GTA 6 was a game for adults. Over the past two weeks, though, the rating has landed in black and white: PEGI 18 on the European PlayStation and Xbox stores, M (Mature 17+) on the American ESRB’s official entry. In between sits a small mystery: the PEGI listing with a detailed content description appeared on Friday, October 2, 2026 and was pulled within hours, with no explanation.
What can be checked at the source

The ESRB descriptors include “Mature Humor”: the satire is written down right next to violence and drugs. The entry shows no rating date. Source: esrb.org.
There are seven ESRB descriptors, plus in-game purchases: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol. The two European stores show their own labels instead, and they do not match: PlayStation lists drugs, sexual content, nudity, extreme violence and in-game purchases; Xbox stops at drugs, sex, violence and purchases.
The PEGI listing that is gone
The detailed description, the one PEGI writes to tell parents what is in a game, stayed online for a few hours on October 2. It survives only in screenshots shared on social media and picked up by several international outlets.
As of our October 12 check, the pegi.info database returns no result for Grand Theft Auto VI, while the search works for the series’ other games. Neither PEGI nor Rockstar has explained the removal: the simplest explanation is an early publication ahead of an agreed date, but it remains a guess.
The missing detail: gambling
None of the circulating versions of the description mentions gambling. That is not a minor gap: GTA 5’s PEGI entry for PS5 and Xbox Series explicitly cites encouragement of gambling because of the casino. Neither European store lists gambling for GTA 6 either.
For Italian and European buyers
Italy has no separate rating body: PEGI applies. A PEGI 18 game is meant for adults, and the rating is guidance for families rather than a legal sales ban in most countries. On PS5 and Xbox, parental controls can be set by age rating.
In short
- GTA 6 is rated PEGI 18 on PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store in Italy, and M (Mature 17+) on the official ESRB entry.
- The ESRB descriptors include intense violence, nudity, sexual content, drugs and alcohol, strong language and mature humor.
- The detailed PEGI listing appeared on October 2, 2026 and was removed the same day, with no explanation.
- Its text survives only in screenshots and nobody has been able to verify it.
- The circulating versions have no gambling line, unlike GTA 5’s entry.
