GTA 6 preorders have been open since June 25, 2026, and the practical questions are always the same: which edition is worth it, digital or physical, and which console will run it best. Here are the answers, with everything officially confirmed and the gray areas flagged as such.

Which consoles run GTA 6

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. In detail:

  • PS5 and PS5 Pro: both supported; no details have been shared on graphical differences between the two models.
  • Xbox Series X and Series S: both supported; Rockstar has not detailed the differences here either.
  • PS4, Xbox One, Switch: no version, neither announced nor plausible given the technical ambitions.
  • PC: no version at launch. That topic deserves its own discussion: read our GTA 6 PC guide.

Extra digital contentNoYes, 16 exclusive items

The Ultimate Edition is digital only and adds sixteen exclusive items tied to Jason and Lucia’s story: three vehicles (‘95 Grotti Cheetah, Shitzu Squalo and ‘67 Vapid Dominator Buggy), the Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, weapon variants and styles, plus in-game mod shops, stores and collections. The full list, item by item, is in our preorder hub. Practical advice: if that list contains nothing you cannot live without, Standard is the rational choice; the price difference does not touch the campaign in any way.

The preorder bonus: Vintage Vice City Pack

Preordering either edition gets you the Vintage Vice City Pack, a celebration pack inspired by the era of GTA Vice City and Tommy Vercetti, plus one free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s subscription service. In the official pack artwork Jason and Lucia pose in retro outfits in front of the Ocean View Hotel: the nod to classic Vice City is unmistakable.

Digital or physical: one detail you need to know

Here is the surprise that sparked debate: the physical edition does not contain a disc, only a download code in the box. In practice, even the shelf copy is a digital copy. The consequences:

  • you still need a connection to download the entire game;
  • the physical version mostly makes sense for collectors or as a gift;
  • the second-hand market for this chapter will effectively not exist.

Preloading starts on November 12, 2026, one week before launch: preordering digitally lets you download everything in advance and play from the first minute.

Should you preorder?

Arguments for: the Vintage Vice City Pack bonus, early preload and, for physical copies, a concrete sell-out risk (initial stock vanished within hours). Arguments against: no discount and no gameplay advantage. The sensible middle ground: if you already know you are buying at day one, a digital Standard preorder is the cleanest choice. If you would rather see full gameplay first, waiting costs you nothing: the digital version will not run out.

How much storage do you need?

Rockstar has not yet shared final storage requirements. Given the game’s scale, it is prudent to expect a very large download: if your console’s SSD is full, the months before launch are the right time to clean up or consider an expansion.
