November 19, 2026 is the new official date: GTA 6 is scheduled to arrive that day on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. With preorders open since June 25 and the promotional campaign running, the calendar has entered its final phase. Getting here, however, was a long road: here is the full timeline.

The history of the delays, in order

December 2023: the first trailer officially reveals the game and points to 2025 as the launch window. The video is an instant phenomenon, pulling enormous view counts.

May 2025: Rockstar announces the first delay. The new date is May 26, 2026. A few days later Trailer 2 arrives, showing Jason and Lucia in action with footage captured on PS5. Our trailer breakdown collects all the details.

November 2025: second delay, this time by roughly six months. The new official date is November 19, 2026. Rockstar says the extra time will allow it to finish the game with the expected level of polish.

June 2026: preorders open worldwide. There are two editions: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99.

Why this one should stick

No date is one hundred percent safe until the game is on shelves, but every signal points the right way: preorders are open and preloading is already scheduled for November 12, 2026. A delay after collecting preorder money would be unprecedented for Rockstar.

What to expect between now and launch

From here to November, the likely script goes: a final trailer or a gameplay deep dive (which Rockstar has not yet shown in extended form), details on the Ultimate Edition and Vintage Vice City Pack contents, storage requirements and, close to launch, the reviews. Remember the game only arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: if you own a last-gen console, read why GTA 6 skips PS4 and Xbox One. And to be ready on day one, from preload to storage, there is the November 19 launch guide. If you want the full picture, our everything-we-know guide is the best starting point.

We will keep the countdown running: the companion, with its map and tracker, gets populated from day one.

Be ready on launch day.
