GTA 6: everything we know (release date, trailers, map, editions)
GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of this generation, and a mountain of rumors has grown around it. This guide keeps the facts only: what Rockstar has confirmed, what the trailers actually show, and what is still unknown. We update it as official information lands.
The release date: November 19, 2026
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The date is confirmed by Rockstar and, with preorders now open, it should be considered final barring surprises.
Getting here took two delays: the game was first announced for fall 2025, then moved to May 2026 with a statement in May 2025, and finally locked to November 19, 2026 with the announcement in November 2025. Both times, Rockstar cited the need to polish the game to the level of quality the community expects.
Platforms: PS5 and Xbox, no PC at launch
At launch GTA 6 will only be available on current-generation consoles: PS5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and no PC version has been announced. If you care about that topic, we reconstructed Rockstar’s porting history in our GTA 6 PC guide.
The protagonists: Jason and Lucia
For the first time in the modern series there are two playable protagonists working as a pair, and one of them is a woman:
- Lucia Caminos: raised in Liberty City, she is fresh out of prison when the story begins. She is the first female lead of a mainline entry in the series’ 3D era.
- Jason Duval: a former soldier who ended up in the Leonida Keys running errands for local traffickers, looking for a way out.
Official store listings mention missions that can be tackled as a duo and the ability to switch between the two characters, in the vein of GTA 5 but built around a Bonnie and Clyde criminal-couple dynamic. The finer details of the system have not been shown yet.
The setting: the state of Leonida
GTA 6 is not set in Vice City alone but in an entire Florida-inspired state: Leonida. Six areas are confirmed so far: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Editions, prices and preorders
Preorders opened on June 25, 2026. Two editions are confirmed:

Preordering either edition gets you the Vintage Vice City Pack, a celebration pack inspired by the GTA Vice City era, plus one free month of GTA+. What we still do not know
In the interest of honesty, the main gaps are the exact map size, progression system, the date and structure of online play, final storage requirements, and the date of any PC version. Any figure or detail you read about these topics is, as of today, unconfirmed.
