Rockstar has not officially presented GTA 6’s multiplayer yet. We do not know its commercial name, opening date, player count, cross-play support or economy rules. Calling it “GTA 6 Online” is convenient, but it is not the same as an announcement.

This guide separates documented facts from useful precedent and questions that still have no answer.

What is confirmed

  • GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Current official messaging describes the single-player experience.
  • Rockstar continues to invest in its online ecosystem. GTA Online remains active and a month of GTA+ appears in some preorder offers, but this does not confirm how a future Leonida multiplayer mode will work.
  • Cfx.re has been part of Rockstar Games since 2023. It is the team behind FiveM and RedM. Rockstar said it wants to support the roleplay community and improve the services offered to developers and players.

That last point makes roleplay relevant to Rockstar’s future. It does not prove that GTA 6 will launch with RP servers, custom jobs or creator tools.

When it could arrive

Rockstar has not provided a date. Previous releases show that an online component can follow the campaign:

GameMain releaseOnline openingWait
GTA 5September 17, 2013October 1, 20132 weeks
Red Dead Redemption 2October 26, 2018November 27, 2018, betaabout 1 month
GTA 6November 19, 2026Not announcedUnknown

A separate launch window is therefore plausible, but not solid enough to predict November or December. Until Rockstar publishes a schedule, the accurate answer is: we do not know.

GTA Online progress and characters

There is no confirmation that money, vehicles, properties or characters will transfer from GTA Online. Starting from zero would make sense for a new setting and economy, but that is a design assessment, not an announced decision.

Veteran rewards linked to a Rockstar account are possible, as similar rewards have appeared during previous transitions. That remains only a possibility. Avoid making GTA Online purchases based on the assumption that they will carry over to Leonida.

Cross-play, subscriptions and PC

Three major questions remain open:

  • Cross-play: Rockstar has not confirmed shared sessions between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Console subscriptions: Rockstar has not explained how multiplayer will be distributed or whether it will be included with the base game. Any PlayStation Plus or Game Pass requirements will depend on that model.
  • PC: GTA 6 is not announced for PC at launch, so there is no official multiplayer window for PC either. Our PC release guide only reconstructs Rockstar’s previous release patterns.

Frequently asked questions

Will GTA 6 Online be available at launch?

It has not been announced. GTA Online and Red Dead Online followed their campaigns, but precedent is not enough to set a date.

Can I transfer my character?

Rockstar has said nothing about transfers. Do not assume characters, money or properties will carry over without official confirmation.

Will there be cross-play?

We do not know. Support between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has not been confirmed.

Be ready on launch day.
