GTA 6 Online in 2027? Twitch's CEO says so, Rockstar doesn't
The first person to put a year on GTA 6’s multiplayer was not Rockstar, and not a leaker either. It was Dan Clancy, Twitch’s CEO, in a Bloomberg interview published on September 17, 2026 during Tokyo Game Show. The conversation was about something else, namely how much GTA 6 will move viewership on the platform, and the line about online came almost in passing.
What Clancy said
The sentence holds two separate pieces of information. The first is that Twitch has talked with Rockstar about its plans, and on that Clancy is a direct source: he is the one sitting at those tables. The second is the multiplayer window, and here it is unclear whether he is repeating something Rockstar told him or making a prediction out loud. The interview does not say.
What Rockstar and Take-Two say
Neither company has commented on Clancy’s remark. Rockstar has never announced a multiplayer set in Leonida, nor a name, nor a date. Take-Two’s statement does not deny 2027, but it does not confirm it either: it only says that on November 19 GTA 6 will be a single-player game and that GTA Online is not shutting down.
Why it is plausible, and why it is still a rumor
A 2027 window fits what we know. GTA 6 ships without online, so multiplayer has to come later, and the confirmation that GTA Online stays live points to a separate product rather than a mode replacing the old one. Context matters too: Clancy was explaining to publishers why it pays to avoid launching near GTA 6, and a second attention spike in 2027 is exactly the kind of figure a platform CEO knows through work.
That said, it remains the word of a business partner, spoken in passing and not echoed by Rockstar. The studio’s track record says online follows the campaign, but with very different gaps: two weeks for GTA Online, roughly a month for the Red Dead Online beta. A full year would be new, which is why we treat it as an authoritative rumor, not a date.
