Rockstar showed GTA 6 in motion for about twenty-seven minutes, and the most important thing is not a mechanic: it is that the second protagonist does not stand still. When you control Jason, Lucia shoots, helps with robberies and acts alongside you, and the other way round. This is not GTA 5’s three-way relay, it is a pair working together.

The rest is a world that appears to carry on without you, and a date that is not moving.

What you see, in order

The film has no narrator, no host and no interviews: it is one continuous montage of play. Rockstar published no running order and the video has no chapters, so what follows is reconstructed from the consistent accounts of people who watched live. The opening and the ending are solid; the order of the middle blocks is not established, and anyone presenting it as a certain sequence is rounding off.

It opens in a Vice City apartment building: Jason and Lucia go in, ride the elevator, walk the corridors and reach a man’s apartment, on a job that comes from Boobie Ike. Inside there is a dog to pet, and an angel-shaped icon appears on screen. The deal collapses into a shootout and the police arrive.

From there the escape: first on a motorcycle, then by car, with Raul Bautista picked up off the street, Lucia driving and Jason moving to the back seat to shoot, helicopters included. The getaway car is burned and the pair switch to a van, but the wanted level does not reset.

The other blocks are a domestic scene in the protagonists’ apartment (fridge, television with full-screen adverts, waiting while Lucia gets ready), a rooftop party at Brian Heder’s with a flashback to a job gone wrong, and a second mission: a security detail at a corporate opening that turns into a firefight and ends with a descent down an elevator shaft.

It closes on a long open-world and activity montage, which also contains the showiest character swap: Lucia leaps from a skyscraper, the camera rises, crosses the city and comes down on Jason.

The mechanics on show

Combat is the sharpest break from GTA 5: people who watched it reach for Red Dead Redemption 2 as the comparison, with something of Max Payne 3 in the way the character moves.

The swap is not just narrative. When the two are close it is instant, even inside the same car, moving from the one driving to the one shooting out of the window; when they are apart the transition takes a few seconds. And some jobs are for one protagonist only: in the rooftop scene it is Lucia who takes the work.

On the rest: the wanted level does not clear when you burn the car and change vehicle, weapons are picked up off the ground, melee is more articulated (Lucia dodges, and one brawl ends through a quick choice between options), a slow-motion kill-cam follows some kills, and the AI-controlled character takes cover on its own. Transitions between play and story scenes happen with no cut, elevators included.

Everyday life is the part that lands hardest: in the apartment you open the fridge and choose what to take, change channel with full-screen adverts running, switch off the lights, pick clothes. A packed nightclub is crossed on foot, shouldering through the crowd.

The activities on show run long: basketball, gym work, a shooting range, swimming and scuba diving, base jumping, backyard wrestling, circuit and dirt racing on motocross bikes, jet skis, kayaks, airboats in the swamps, e-scooters, and small robberies at gas stations and convenience stores. The body system Rockstar described in the August 26 interview gets its confirmation here: the gym is real.

Rockstar had already spoken, the day before

Over the previous fortnight ten clips attributed to the Cyberleek group had circulated. Throughout the affair Rockstar had not commented.

That statement changes how this evening reads. The presentation does not return to the subject, and no account reports any nod to the leaks across the twenty-seven minutes: but that is an absence of evidence, not a confirmation, because nobody explicitly writes that there were none either. The point is that the answer had already been given elsewhere, in a register a long way from the legal notice of 2022.

On a point-by-point comparison between the mechanics seen in the stolen clips and those shown in the presentation we found no published analysis, and it is not a gap we want to fill: the stolen material sits outside our scale, and using it as a yardstick would let it back in through the window. What matters is separating the sources, and that is what we did in the Extended Look analysis: a good share of the details circulating that night did not come from the presentation.

What is still missing

The presentation says nothing about the PC version, which remains unannounced and undated. It says nothing about GTA Online or GTA 6’s multiplayer: everything shown was single-player, and the only co-operative element is the swap between Jason and Lucia, which is one player, not two.

There are no numbers on map size, no detail on prices or additional content, and no announcement of editions beyond the ones already known. The answers a cut video cannot give arrived elsewhere, in the same hours: the press previews, written from a closed-doors session Rockstar held at Rockstar North. Nobody played anything, the session was hands-off, and it was not “the press” in attendance: IGN, the New York Times and a handful of creators were there, and everything else is a rebound. That is where the wanted system, tiered car theft, the Criminal Profile and the vehicle scanning app come from: we separated them by source in the breakdown.

In short

  • The Extended Look runs about 27 minutes per the Netflix listing, which describes it as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
  • It has no narrator and no host: one continuous montage of play, the longest Rockstar has ever shown.
  • The second protagonist is not passive: they fight and take part alongside the player, and the swap is instant when the two are close.
  • The wanted level does not clear when you burn the getaway car and switch vehicles.
  • The date remains November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; nothing on PC and nothing on GTA Online.
  • Rockstar had already addressed the leaks the day before on Instagram, calling them “heartbreaking for our team”.

Frequently asked questions

What did the GTA 6 Extended Look show?

About twenty-seven minutes of play, captured on PlayStation 5 per the Netflix listing: two missions, a police chase, everyday scenes in the protagonists’ apartment and a long montage of activities and open world. The most significant systemic change is that the protagonist you are not controlling fights and acts with you.

Is GTA 6 still coming on November 19, 2026?

Yes. The official site lists November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and nothing announced during the evening changed the date.

Did the Extended Look mention the PC version?

No. The PC version remains unannounced and undated, exactly as before the presentation.

Did it mention GTA Online or multiplayer?

No. Everything shown was single-player, and nothing was said about the future of the online side.

Did Rockstar address the leaked videos?

Yes, but the day before and elsewhere. On August 26, on Instagram, it called the leak “heartbreaking for our team” and said the game is nearly finished, without naming the group and without announcing legal action. The August 27 presentation does not return to it.

Where can the presentation be rewatched?

On Netflix, and from 9 p.m. ET on August 27 also on the official Rockstar Games channel: Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.
