GTA 6 leak: two gameplay clips and a map, what they actually show
Since August 18 two GTA 6 gameplay clips and images of what is presented as the full map of Leonida have been circulating. The material came from an entity calling itself Cyberleek, nine days before the Extended Look scheduled on Netflix. Rockstar and Take-Two have not commented, but they are having posts pulled for copyright infringement, which is the strongest indirect sign that the videos are genuine. The map is another matter entirely.

What the two clips show
Each clip runs about a minute and stars Jason Duval.
In the first, Jason is at the waterside house already seen in the announcement trailer: he hops a low wall, walks past a jet ski, picks up a basketball and shoots hoops. On a made basket a stat labelled “focus” goes up, which points to role-playing style progression tied to activities.
In the second, Jason drives a pickup down a sunny road, slams into a delivery van and ends up in a fistfight with the driver, using a wrench as an improvised weapon.
Later analyses added a few smaller but consistent details: an openable pickup tailgate, reworked vehicle exit animations for both player and NPCs, and a basketball that reacts to water with believable physics. Crumbs like these usually say more than the headline mechanics, because that kind of polish is not what ends up in a faked demo.
If they hold up, they are two different kinds of change. Fuel, engine condition and trunk storage push the simulation toward Red Dead Redemption 2 levels of detail. Identification by clothes, face and vehicle would change how you shake off the police, because it would hand the player concrete levers to lower the wanted level instead of only running.
Why “old” is the key word
Insider NateTheHate has indicated the footage is more than a year old, and early community analysis placed it in a 2023 build.
That dating has to be revised, though. In the third video, the taser one, the radio plays a track released in January 2025: if all the material comes from the same source, “2023 build” does not hold. It is still a development build, not the finished game.
Two practical consequences follow. First, anything on screen may have been changed, rebalanced or cut: fuel in particular is exactly the kind of mechanic teams try and then drop. Second, the footage does not represent final visual quality, so judging how GTA 6 looks from these videos makes no sense.
The map is the weakest piece
The alleged map images show five counties (Lummox, Kelly, Leonard, Vice-Dale and Mariana), named islands and keys, and three bodies of water along the edges. It is the part of the leak that made the most noise and the part that holds up the least.
The two things are worth keeping apart: the videos have a strong point in their favour (copyright takedowns hit real material), the map does not. Passing both along as a single “confirmed leak” is the most common mistake being made. Who Cyberleek is, and why to be wary
The group published a manifesto with three demands: an end to digital preorders, an end to content already on the disc but locked behind extra payments, and offline playable versions of the single player parts of online games. It has said it will not stop until Rockstar and Take-Two apologise. The backdrop is the decision to sell GTA 6 without a real disc edition.
There is a detail, though, that reframes everything else: the same manifesto invites people to fund a “secret project” by buying a memecoin on the Solana blockchain. Several outlets, PC Gamer and GamesRadar among them, flagged the contradiction between the consumer rights speech and the crypto fundraising, and more than one observer openly describes the whole thing as an operation built to pump the token’s value.
The second wave, and the fake announcements

What changes for August 27
Officially, nothing. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is still set for August 27 at 12pm PT / 3pm ET on Netflix, with YouTube and the official site six hours later. The game launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The only thing that changes is for viewers: two clips from a three year old build are a poor way to see GTA 6 for the first time, and they burn part of the surprise for very little in return. Anyone who wants to arrive at August 27 unspoiled should skip the hunt for the videos.
