Two hours inside Rockstar North: what MikeShowSha's account really adds
Writing our guides on the late-August previews, we repeated one line on every page: at that closed-door session there was no such thing as “the press”, there were IGN, the New York Times and a handful of creators, so ten sites reporting the same detail are one source repeated ten times.
One of those creators is Italian. MikeShowSha was at Rockstar North, in Edinburgh, in July 2026, and told the whole story in two videos published once the embargo lifted. It is a first-hand source almost nobody is counting as one, and reading it in full does three different things: it corroborates what we knew, it adds a good deal that appeared nowhere else, and on three points it forced us to correct what we had written.
How we weigh it
A first-hand account is not automatically sturdier than a journalistic one: it is simply closer to the source. So the usual discipline applies, on a three-column grid.
| Tier | What it means | Example from his account |
|---|---|---|
| Corroborated | The English previews say it too, or it is visible in official material | Criminal Profile, six stars, car theft tools |
| Single first-hand source | He saw it and it appears nowhere else | The three icons under his stars, the scooter valet |
| His opinion | He offers it as an impression, and says so | How much the realism risks slowing the game down |
One detail that helps weigh him: in the second video, the Q&A, the most frequent phrase is “I don’t know”. On 60fps, on tattoos, on what happens if you gain weight. A source that marks out what it does not know is a source you can use.
The three things that made us correct our pages
This is the part that concerns us directly, and it goes first, because burying corrections at the bottom would be convenient and dishonest.
1. Focus does flag the police, and we had written that it does not
In our wanted level guide we had a FAQ saying, in substance, not to expect the Focus system to mark police cars on screen: IGN described it as a tool that highlights objects and opportunities and that helps you evade the police, and the “it flags patrol cars” version looked to us like something born in the aggregation.
MikeShowSha, who was in the room, describes it with a precision that leaves little room: with Focus on, the view shifts to purple and police officers are marked in blue, interactable objects in red, and in a slowed-down aim enemy weak points appear in yellow when non-lethal and red when lethal.
It was not an aggregation artefact. We corrected the guide.
2. The AI-controlled partner does drive
In our Jason and Lucia partnership guide we had written that there was no evidence of the AI-controlled protagonist taking the wheel, and that anyone claiming otherwise was inverting what the official video shows. About the video we were right. About the game, we were not.
He describes a chase where he drove as Lucia with Jason riding shotgun, then switched: from that point he was shooting at the police as Jason while Lucia drove under CPU control. He adds that you can give orders to the character you are not controlling, and that telling her to speed up made her weave through traffic accordingly.
3. Cash from a job can be marked
In our making money guide we listed among the unknowns whether robbery cash is immediately spendable or has to pass through an intermediary, noting that anyone asserting it was extrapolating from GTA 5.
His account answers, at least for one case: after grabbing a bag of banknotes from somebody else’s robbery gone wrong, the money was marked and had to be laundered, and they went to a business that does exactly that. Whether this holds for every haul or only for cash already dirtied by someone else, his account does not establish.
What he adds, and what appeared nowhere else
Almost all of this is single first-hand source. Worth reading, worth not treating as confirmed.
Fuel and electric charging. Rob Nelson confirmed it to him out loud: cars have fuel, electric ones need charging, and a stolen car often has a lower tank than one of yours. A full tank lasts a long time, so it is not designed as a constant tax. It closes a loop: the fuel gauge was already visible in the August leaked footage, where it remained a reported element from an old build.
Three slots for registered vehicles, and here the convergence is real. In the July build you could keep three: Jason’s car, Lucia’s, and a third. To register another they had to sell one.
This is the one entry on the list that is not single-source, and it is worth saying because it shows what verification looks like. The same number and the same mechanism come from Rob Nelson in the interview Famitsu published on August 28, 2026, which almost no Western outlet picked up. Two different people, in two different rooms, with the same figure: that is genuine convergence, not one detail repeated by ten sites citing the same source.
The scooter valet. When you call your car with the phone app, an NPC delivers it, gets out, rides off on an electric scooter and disappears. It is not a mechanic, it is the kind of finish nobody usually notices.
The gym has a precise rule. Three consecutive days of training raise the strength stat by one, but the level then has to be maintained by going back. Eating too much makes you gain weight, training builds muscle, and the physique changes visibly.
Per-character stats. The menu carries entries like body fat and sleep quality, tracked separately for Jason and Lucia.
The icons under his stars were three. Uncovered face, clothing and weapon, the last because he had drawn a pistol. In a second episode, a jewellery store robbery, a cameras icon appeared too. The English previews did not even agree on the number of icons: this is one more reading, not a definitive list.
The search area has two bands. A tighter, redder one where the police hunt you with the exact description, and a wider band around it where the search is looser.
At six stars you do not escape. Rob Nelson told him that at the top level getting away is practically impossible, because the hunt never lets up.
Arrest costs you selectively. Beyond money, you lose weapons picked up off the ground, while your customised ones stay in the boot of your car.
You sprint with R3. The run button changes from GTA 5, and in his judgement movement on foot is smoother and less stiff than in Red Dead Redemption 2. There is also an adrenaline burst that kicks in as stamina drops.
Random events really are random. He ran into two in two hours: a crashed robbers’ car with money scattered on the road, and two women locked inside a jewellery store asking for help getting out. On the second one, the team told him it had never come up in months of their own sessions.
The most useful thing about his account is its date
This is what makes his material more valuable than a list of features, and it deserves highlighting because he raises it himself.
The video was recorded on July 15 and published in late August, with corrections added in between. Rewatching the official material, he notes himself that some things do not line up: the fuel gauge does not appear in the Extended Look, nor do the charging points he says he saw in the build; the Criminal Profile faces look slightly different from how he remembers them; and on the Criminal Profile he adds that something has changed since he tried it, because the system is still being tuned.
Translated: his account is a photograph of a July build, not of the game shipping on November 19. That holds for every line on this page, and all the more for the numbers, like the three vehicle slots.
There is a second detail pointing the same way, about the Criminal Profile. He recounts that before his session the team reset the system to normal, because the previous day it had been left on “violent”. That is a developer action in a demo build, not a game mechanic: it does not contradict what the English previews reported, namely that once the profile cracks it cannot be repaired.
What he did not get, and why it matters
In the second video he explains the limits of the access honestly, and it is a lesson in method that reaches beyond GTA 6.
On 60fps, he asked what frame rate it ran at, and Rob Nelson answered enthusiastically that they were playing on a base PS5 at 30fps. End of answer. The question about a possible 60fps mode on PS5 Pro went unanswered, and he is blunt about why: it is not that he failed to ask, it is that they would not have told him.
On GTA Online and roleplay, the same applies. His explanation is that these events have a topic, and outside the topic nobody answers anyone.
The operational conclusion is simple and holds for any preview: silence on a subject is not a denial. Anyone who read “nobody talked about GTA Online” as “GTA Online will not be there at launch” added something the source does not contain.
In brief
- MikeShowSha was at Rockstar North in July 2026 for a closed-door session of about two hours, with the embargo lifting between August 27 and 29.
- The session was hands-off: Rob Nelson held the controller, he directed. Nobody outside Rockstar has played the game yet.
- His account made us correct three points: Focus does flag the police, the AI partner does drive, and cash from a job can be marked and need laundering.
- He adds fuel and electric charging confirmed out loud by Rob Nelson, the three-day gym rule and per-character stats such as sleep quality.
- On the three places for registered vehicles his account matches the interview Rob Nelson gave Famitsu: two different rooms, the same figure.
- On the suspect icons he reports face, clothing and weapon, plus cameras in a second episode.
- It is a photograph of a July build: he himself flags that fuel does not appear in the Extended Look and that the Criminal Profile is still being tuned.
- He got no answers on 60fps and GTA Online, and explains why: silence is not a denial.
Frequently asked questions
Did MikeShowSha play GTA 6?
No, and he says so himself in the video: the session was hands-off, with Rob Nelson at the controller carrying out what he asked for. The same holds for every creator and outlet who visited Rockstar North: outside the studio, nobody has played it yet.
When was MikeShowSha’s Rockstar North session?
July 2026. The main video was recorded on July 15 and published on August 29, after the embargo lifted following the Extended Look on August 27.
Will GTA 6 really have fuel?
Rob Nelson confirmed it to him out loud during the session: cars have fuel, electric ones charge, and a full tank lasts a long time. It has to be said, though, that the gauge does not appear in the Extended Look, and he points this out himself: it remains something seen in a July build, not in official material.
What frame rate does GTA 6 run at on PS5?
Rob Nelson indicated 30fps on a base PS5 during that session. No answer came on a possible 60fps mode on PS5 Pro, and the absence of an answer is neither a confirmation nor a denial.
How much is his account worth next to IGN’s preview?
It is testimony about the same event, so it is not an independent source confirming the others: it is another person in the same room. The value lies in the details the others did not report and in the points where his account diverges, not in how many times a claim gets repeated.
