GTA 6 and Xbox: no exclusive streaming, and no cloud on PC
For a few hours in early October it looked as though Microsoft had grabbed a piece of GTA 6: exclusive streaming rights at launch. The Verge reported it. On the night between October 6 and 7, 2026 came the denial from Matthew Ball, Xbox’s chief strategy officer: no exclusivity and, above all, no streaming to PC. Anyone hoping to play GTA 6 on a computer through the cloud will have to wait for the real PC version, which still has no date.
What The Verge reported
Tom Warren, the Verge writer who has covered Microsoft for years, reported that Xbox had secured the rights to stream GTA 6 through Xbox Cloud Gaming from launch day, and that the deal was exclusive. According to his sources, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had told employees at an internal meeting that Microsoft would do something with GTA 6 that “no other platform holder” was doing.
Xbox’s denial

Ball writes “GTAVI” and “XBOX” as single capitalized words; the timestamp is in Central European time, which is the evening of October 6 in the US. Source: X, @ballmatthew.
The post talks about “misreporting” fueled by excitement and sets two points: GTA 6 launches on Xbox on November 19, but it will not be streaming exclusively or to PC. A few hours later The Verge corrected its article with a note at the bottom: the streaming deal is not exclusive and GTA 6 won’t be streamed to PCs. The headline also lost the word “exclusive”.
Why “no PC” matters
The most concrete part of the denial is not about consoles. Xbox Cloud Gaming also runs in browsers and in PC apps: had GTA 6 been streamable there, it would effectively have become the way to play on a computer ahead of the PC version. Ball rules that out. Rockstar has only announced PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and on porting timelines our roundup in GTA 6 on PC: when is it coming still stands.
No statement has come from Rockstar, Take-Two or Sony. PlayStation Plus Premium streaming has not been announced either: anyone calling it likely is speculating.
The precedent: the pre-order war
This is not the first time Ball has corrected The Verge on GTA 6. On September 24 Warren wrote, citing Xbox sources, that the game’s pre-orders were “heavily skewed toward PS5”. Ball replied the same evening.

Ball does not deny the imbalance: he says Xbox’s share of pre-orders mirrors Xbox’s share of the console market, which is smaller than PlayStation’s. Source: X, @ballmatthew.
Neither side gave numbers. Third-party pre-order estimates are collected in our piece on Sensor Tower and GTA 6 pre-orders.
