The eel is one of four things Rockstar names, by name, when describing the seabed of the Leonida Keys. In the official screenshot it is on the left, long and pale, swimming close to the coral as a diver passes by.
The same clarification applies as on the other marine pages: this is not a caption on the page, it is the image’s alt text, written by Rockstar all the same.
Why so small an entry matters
A page about an eel may look like overkill. The reason it exists is different: Rockstar could have written “aquatic life” and stopped there, and instead listed the species one by one. When a company that publishes very little material bothers to name an eel, it is saying the seabed has distinct wildlife, not a generic fish texture.
Studying animals
In the August 27, 2026 Extended Look, approaching a dog brings up a menu with Scold, Pet and Study. Press previews connect that entry to a list of animals to complete, at the zoo and across Leonida, which IGN describes as derived from Red Dead Redemption 2. If the system covers the sea too, the eel is the kind of entry you only tick off with a tank on. It stays reported.

Species, behavior, whether it is set dressing or part of a wildlife system you interact with.
