Which animals have already been seen in GTA 6: the species you can recognise in the official trailers and screenshots, one page each.
Rockstar has not published a list of GTA 6 wildlife, so this is not a list of expected animals: it only holds the ones documented in official material. The turning point was the "Only in Leonida" section of Rockstar's site, where the publisher's own captions name species one by one: a cougar stalking a herd of deer at a Mount Kalaga stream, alligators around an airboat in the Grassrivers, and on the Leonida Keys seabed "coral, fish, an eel, and a sea turtle". Add the flamingo and the iguana from the trailers, the dolphin from an Ultimate Edition shot, and the dog from the Extended Look, the only animal we have seen anyone actually interact with.

What you can do with animals, and what we do not know
Hunting is no longer a guess. The official Mount Kalaga National Park copy promises "prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails", and an official Grassrivers screenshot shows three mud-caked hunters posing on an airboat with a dead alligator and wildcat. Rockstar published that on its own site: it is not an inference from the studio's other games. What is still missing is any description of a mechanic: knowing the park is built for hunting is not knowing how hunting works.
On interaction there is exactly one fixed point, and it is the dog. In the Extended Look, approaching a dog brings up a contextual menu and Jason pets it. That much is in the official video. That the menu entries are Scold, Pet and Study comes from the press who attended the closed-doors session, and the same press connects that "Study" to a Red Dead Redemption 2 style list of animals to complete, at the zoo and out across Leonida. Those are first-hand journalistic accounts, not announcements: we keep them marked as reported. These pages stay open, and at launch we add the species you actually meet and the mechanics attached to them.
Frequently asked questions
What animals are in GTA 6?
Eight are documented in official material: alligator, cougar, deer, sea turtle, eel, flamingo, iguana and dolphin, plus the dog seen in the Extended Look. Rockstar has not published a full wildlife list, so any other species stays a guess until it shows up in official material.
Will GTA 6 have more animals than GTA 5?
It has not been announced. GTA 5 had broad wildlife and that precedent makes a comparable system plausible, but plausible is not confirmed. What can be said is that species documented in official GTA 6 material went from three to eight in a month, and that Rockstar's own Grassrivers copy explicitly promises "far deadlier predators" among the mangroves.
Can you hunt or interact with animals in GTA 6?
Partly, yes. The official Mount Kalaga copy promises prime hunting and fishing, and an official Grassrivers screenshot shows two animals killed and posed as trophies. How the mechanics actually work, though, Rockstar has not described. On interaction, the only thing seen on screen is petting the dog in the Extended Look: the three menu entries and the list of animals to study come from press previews, not from an announcement.
Why are GTA 6 animals Florida species?
Because Leonida is the fictional state modelled on Florida: alligator, cougar, white-tailed deer, sea turtle, American flamingo and green iguana all genuinely live there, and their presence fits a setting built from wetlands, coastline and a subtropical city.
