Deer
Mammal, ungulate
The deer is Mount Kalaga's prey: an official screenshot shows a herd drinking from the stream, with a cougar a few metres away.
The cougar is the predator Rockstar staged for Mount Kalaga National Park, the wooded, hilly band along Leonida’s northern border. It is the only large land carnivore shown in official material so far.
The image is built like a real hunting scene: the cat moves through shallow water, backlit, while a few metres away the deer drink without noticing. This is not an animal dropped in to fill the woods, it is a predator standing in the middle of its prey.
The official Mount Kalaga copy describes the park as “a national landmark up against the state’s northern border” offering “prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails”. The cougar sits squarely inside that frame, and in two possible senses: prize quarry, or a threat to anyone going in on foot.
In the Extended Look, when Jason approaches a dog, Study appears among the options next to Pet and Scold. Press previews connect that entry to a list of animals to complete, at the zoo and out across the map, which IGN describes as derived from Red Dead Redemption 2. If that list is real, a rare predator like the cougar is exactly the kind of entry you would go looking for. The detail stays reported, though, not confirmed.
Whether the cougar can be hunted, whether it attacks, which parts of the park it appears in and how often. At launch.
