The Duke 556 is GTA 6’s first assault rifle with an official name, and the name does not come from an engraving or promotional copy but from the game’s interface. In the Extended Look of August 27, 2026, during the raid on the Megamundo tower, Jason walks past a downed man and the prompt to pick up his weapon appears on screen.

It also shows how the game names its weapons: manufacturer, number and category, written in full. The “556” most likely refers to the 5.56 calibre of AR-style rifles: that is our reading, the game does not explain it.

Before the Extended Look every weapon with an official name was a sidearm, pistols and revolvers: the Duke 556 and the Moreland 850 shotgun, seen in the same video’s opening mission, are the first long guns documented. The full picture is on the GTA 6 weapons page.
