Deer
Mammal, ungulate
The deer is Mount Kalaga's prey: an official screenshot shows a herd drinking from the stream, with a cougar a few metres away.
Hunting is the activity Rockstar has shown most without ever explaining it. The place is written down, there are three screenshots, the prey is recognizable; what is missing is a single official sentence on how it works.
Three official images show hunting from three different angles.
The hunter is shot from behind and there is no telling whether it is Jason or a non-player character: the scene says people hunt in Leonida, not yet that you do.
Game Informer reports more than 170 animal species, and its free article on the species says certain animals can be “tracked” and fall into three categories: Rare, Discoverable and Legendary. Rockstar is still keeping the Legendary ones secret.
Rockstar has not described a hunting mechanic: nothing on tracks, pelts, selling game, licenses or dedicated weapons. We do not know whether hunting is an activity with its own system or just one more thing you can do in the open world, nor whether legendary animals are prey or entries in a collection. All of this gets checked at launch, on November 19, 2026.

Reptile
The alligator is the emblem of the Grassrivers: Rockstar puts it at the centre of the swamp in three official screenshots, alive and hunted.
Mammal, big cat
The cougar is the Mount Kalaga predator: an official screenshot shows it stalking a herd of deer at a stream, inside Leonida's national park.
